Regular Excercise Improves Glycaemic Control in Diabetes Mellitus

Implementation of a structured physical exercise program can improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The beneficial effect of regular excercise on health is well known. Exercise training improves glucose homeostasis, but large inter-individual differences are reported, suggesting a role of genetic factors.  Some of the type 2 diabetes-associated genetic variants that were discovered in recent studies (1) are also associated with Gestational Diabetes.

 
HIV Cure: Are We There Yet?

In November 2008, doctors from Charite Clinic in Germany reported that a patient appeared to have been cured of HIV using a bone marrow transplant from a donor with a genetic resistance to HIV. The patient who also had Leukemia had no signs of either disease 2 years after transplantation.
