Implementation of a structured physical exercise program can improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The beneficial effect of regular excercise on health is well known. Exercise training improves glucose homeostasis, but large inter-individual differences are reported, suggesting a role of genetic factors. Some of the type 2 diabetes-associated genetic variants that were discovered in recent studies (1) are also associated with Gestational Diabetes.
